general information
|
Collective of 350 backstrap loom weavers, 98% women, from five ethnic groups: Mam, Ixil, Cackchiquel, Tzutuhil, and Quiche. 100% worker owned. Founded in 1995 by a handful of local women, ASOTRAMA aims to improve the lives of the women in it's cooperative by providing trade skills, solidarity and economic opportunites.. TRAMA'S backstrap loom weavers are able to provide additional economic income to their families. By marketing their products through an organization that fights for the dignity, well-being, and ethnic expression of its associates, the continuity of an artistic work that has been a female domain since the moon deity taught weaving to the first woman is guaranteed. |
