1. Fundraiser/Grant writer
Description:Volunteer needed with grant-writing skills and ability to research funding opportunities in areas of women's concerns, economic development, sustainable technology, cultural survival and the arts. Other fundraising skills welcome. Time commitment would be flexible, based upon the volunteer's availability -- any help will be welcome. Volunteer would work from home and communicate via computer. Who can volunteer for this: Both sexes Adults, Seniors Skills: Writing, english 2. Textile Museum Developer Description:Develop and direct a small, new textile museum and shop. The objective of the museum is to present the evolution of backstrap loom weaving from prehispanic to the present, in order to create an educational destination for tourists who visit Santiago Atitlan. Volunteer would create informative programs, organize demonstrations and/or classes, lead tourist groups through museum and organize tours of the weavers' at work in their homes, develop fundraising methods, and train a Tzutujil manager. Work will also be needed to publicize the new museum, specifically by designing promotional materials and distributing them to hotels and travel agents within Guatemala. Volunteer Director will explore other methods to promote the museum to tourists utilizing the launchas, such as boat fare tickets with museum information on the reverse side. The Textile Musuem will be officially opening on April 26th and has already received acclaim. Plans are underway to expand the project to include a cultural center, utilizing traditional Tzutujil architecture to create structures for a kitchen and tiny cafe, and class room space which will be used for teaching weaving and various pertinent presentations. Position requires a minimum commitment of four months, fluency in Spanish and an ability to be creative within a limited budget. . Website Manager Description:Develop and manage the association's website as an on-going entity: maintaining The Gallery as a fresh and exciting place to buy backstrap-loom textiles; organizing real-time presentations of weaving and related processes, on-line classes and innovative ideas to make the website an outstanding place to learn about backstrap loom weaving and its traditional significance. Developing an on-line newsletter for Friends of Cojolya. Position requires a minimum 4 month commitment. 4. Translator Description:Translate text of exhibits in our textile museum, from either English or Spanish, into French, Italian, German or Japanese. This information will be printed onto a plastic-coated sheet, which will be used by visitors to our textile museum who only speak these languages. As our mission is to educate people about the importance of backstrap loom weaving and the traditions which surround it, this work is highly important. The texts may be sent to the volunteer via email and worked on at the volunteer's leisure. Who can volunteer for this: Both sexes Adults, Seniors, Teens Skills: Writing Languages: French, German, Italian, Japanese 5. Business Manager to organize the financial aspects of the Association. This would include developing a business plan, evaluating and directing cash flow, training a Tzutujil manager, organizing business records and implementing Quick Books on our computer system. Anyone with the experience of running a small business successfully could organize this and will have the authority to create and manage the budget. A retired person with energy, strong management skills and interest in cultural immersion would be perfect. Six month or year long commitment required.
