Francisco Roberto Gutiérrez Martínez published 1999 his collection of essays "Para eliminar la Pobreza en Guatemala" and gave biirth to the idea of founding an alliance of NGOs, government, companies, etc. to reduce poverty in Guatemala, broaden public awareness of the problem of poverty, and enlist the support, participation and commitment of the various sectors of society to improve the standard of living of the poorest inhabitants of the country.
