Work with rural Mayan communities. Mayalan is always in search of volunteers to work on publicity, organization, office support and a variety of campaigns - fair trade marketing, women's education and empowerment, democratic participation, health and environmental awareness. Artists, photographers, doctors, and others with knowledge to share are also needed. |

Goals are to foster unity, organization, education, and self-sustainable economic development in rural communities. Provides support of returned refugees.
Organization formed of indigenous Mayans from the northwest of Guatemala in 1982. Their aim is to promote integration and self-sustainability within 13 partner rural communities by assisting in: farming (pigs, chicken, corn), crafts and weaving. They also operate small business loans. They provide grants for youth from member families and workshops on the history of Mayan culture. Teach women self-esteem, preventative medicine, pre and post natal care and issues of domestic violence. |
