Jocelyn Bates – Director
Jocelyn graduated in 2003 with a BA Honours in Linguistics and Spanish from the University of Sussex, Great Britain and Universidad de Cadiz, Spain and is also a qualified English teacher. After graduation she worked for several years for international conservation and teaching NGO Trekforce, as marketing and public relations manager. She then moved to Belize to run the organisation’s rural teaching programme. In 2006 she came to Xela and worked as coordinator for Habitat Para La Humanidad Guatemala (Habitat for Humanity) and Asociacion Nuevos Horizontes. She joined the Entremundos team in 2009 as Project Coordinator and took over as Director in December 2009.
Laurel Carlton - Volunteer Programme Advisor and Community Tourism Coordinator
Laurel completed a B.A. Honours degree in International Relations and French Language Studies from Mount Allison University in Canada in 2009. Following graduation, Laurel moved to Madrid, Spain, where she studied as a TEFL English Teacher with TTMadrid while also pursuing Spanish studies. Laurel initially came to Guatemala looking to further her Spanish and volunteer with TRAMA Textiles, and joined the EntreMundos team in 2011. She is looking forward to further developing the volunteer services and to learning more about the diverse organizations and communities that comprise Guatemala´s third sector.
Ian Taylor - Development and Capacity Building Coordinator
Ian joined EntreMundos in March 2008. He has previously worked as a fundraiser in England for a local NGO as well as on development projects in Africa and other parts of Latin America. He holds a BA (Hons.) in Business Administration from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Msc. in Management and Implementation of Development Projects from the University of Manchester.
Valeria Ayerdi - Editor
Valeria has been the editor of the EntreMundos magazine since June 2008. As a local journalist, she has worked and collaborated for different newspapers and magazines in Guatemala for the last 10 years including: El Quetzalteco, Revista Este País, Revista Magna Terra, Periódico La Hora, Periódico Universidad and Editorial Serviprensa. She combines her work in EntreMundos with a column in the weekly La Noticia. All of her work is characterised by a consequent posture that has the vision to influence the building of a democratic, inclusive, self-critical and balanced country.
