Internships in Guatemala

Some organisations look for specialized and skilled individuals to fill more professional roles; just as there are skilled individuals that are looking for formal experience with a Guatemalan organization. To bridge these needs, EntreMundos offers and coordinates a select number of internships.

The Internships run by EntreMundos are unpaid, but offer valuable learning and work experiences to the intern as well as important support to the host organization. Internships differ from volunteering because they involve a fixed, formalised job description, independent responsibilities assigned to the intern, a greater leadership role, and a longer commitment to the host organisation.

The Internship Programme requests a voluntary donation of USD$100 per month*, which is shared evenly between the host organisation and EntreMundos. This donation includes:

The internship position
Pre-departure contact support and information
Contact support while in Guatemala
Monthly and final work evaluations by the internship supervisor
A certificate of completion
Follow-up contact with EntreMundos afterwards
Any beaurocratic functions that we can fulfill, taking into account our capacities as a small, non-profit NGO.

This donation does not include your flights, health/travel insurance and medical expenses, or living costs while here in Guatemala.

Journalism Intern (Human Rights/ Development)	EntreMundos Revista	Support with the editor throughout the process of creating, editing, and printing the EntreMundos human rights and development magazine. 4 months minimum; advanced Spanish and English required.
Projects Coordinator	Pop Wuj	Coordinate the varied projects run by a local Guatemalan association – a stove-building project, an open medical clinic, a daycare and family support center, and a scholarship program. 3 months minimum; intermediate Spanish required.
Environmental Projects Coordinator	Pop Wuj	Coordinate the environmentally-focused projects of a local NGO – stove building, reforestation, a greenhouse, and recycling. 3 months minimum; intermediate Spanish required.
Family Support Centre Coordinator	Pop Wuj	Coordinate activities and educational support for an afterschool programme and support that serves approximately 40 children, ages 1 to 17, and their mothers. 3 months minimum; intermediate Spanish required.
Scholarship & Education Coordinator	Pop Wuj	Coordinating the Scholarship and Education project funded and administered by a local Guatemalan asociación. This position involves close contact with Guatemalan scholarship families by conducting in-home interviews and arranging community meetings. 5 months minimum; intermediate/advanced Spanish required.
Women’s Health Education Intern	Primeros Pasos	Run and attend meetings and workshops, create education materials, help with program evaluation and encourage participation in this community health initiative designed to educate and empower Guatemalan women. 6 months minimum; advanced Spanish required.
Children`s Education & Curriculum Development Intern	Primeros Pasos	The Children’s Education & Curriculum Development Assistant will work in our Healthy Schools Program. She/he will assist the program director in planning and executing the program. 3 month minimum. Advanced Spanish required.
Grant Writing Intern	Primeros Pasos	The intern would be responsible not only for grant writing and creating materials to be used for future grants but also for training other members of staff in grant writing.2 month minimum. Intermediate - Advanced Spanish required.
Pharmacy Intern	Primeros Pasos	The intern would be responsible not only for daily pharmacy operations but for improving them and training staff on how best to run the pharmacy. Additionally, she/he will be responsible for helping to research ways of receiving low-cost medication to stock the pharmacy. 3 month minimum. Intermediate - Advanced Spanish required.
Social Media and Communications Intern	Primeros Pasos	Support the Development Director to improve the communications, promotional materials, and social media presence of this community health organization. 3 month minimum; basic Spanish required.
Grant Writer/Researcher	Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano / HSP	Strengthen the organizational development of this association of Mayan women to further their activities that both empower Mayan women in rural communities and preserve their traditional cultures. 6 month minimum; intermediate/advanced Spanish required.
Mayan Textiles Outreach Intern	Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano / HSP	Through outreach and marketing, support this project that provides additional income to approximately 90 women and their families through the production and sale of high quality woven goods. 6 month minimum; intermediate/advanced Spanish required.
Teacher/Tutor	Nuevos Horizontes	Provide educational support and group classes to support the children and adolescence living at a local shelter for survivors of domestic violence. 3 months minimum; intermediate Spanish required.
Psychology Intern	Nuevos Horizontes	Provide psychological support and therapy to survivors of domestic violence and their children who are living in a shelter in Quetzaltenango. 3 months minimum; advanced Spanish required
