Representa lo que unos saben y los que otros no: que lo que haces con el agua, se lo haces a la tierra, y que lo que le haces a la tierra, se lo haces al pueblo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">En la p\u00e1gina 22 el profesor guatemalteco y autor principal de los informes sobre cambio clim\u00e1tico del IPCC de la UN Dr. Edwin Castellanos escribe que<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cel cambio clim\u00e1tico afectar\u00e1 a Guatemala esencialmente como un problema de manejo de agua\u2019\u201d as\u00ed como la temporada seca es cada vez m\u00e1s severa, la temporada de lluvias sera m\u00e1s destructiva, mientras el agua de la superficie y la subterr\u00e1nea permanecen contaminadas con aguas residuales no tratadas y contaminaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">En la p\u00e1gina 24 el Dr. Daniel Matul de la Liga Maya escribe que parte de la soluci\u00f3n es vernos a nosotros mismos desde una perspectiva maya, como parte de lo que contaminamos. Las cat\u00e1strofes causadas por plantaciones, minas, cambio clim\u00e1tico y la falta de soluciones est\u00e1n causadas por \u2018la visi\u00f3n europea impuesta de la naturaleza como objeto de explotaci\u00f3n por el hombre rey de la creaci\u00f3n.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">En junio, comunidades cercanas al rio de La Pasi\u00f3n en Pet\u00e9n vieron a cientos de peces flotando muertos con la corriente. Parece que una plantaci\u00f3n de palma africana verti\u00f3 qu\u00edmicos en el r\u00edo, de donde los cient\u00edficos han recuperado ya los cuerpos de m\u00e1s de 23 especies diferentes de peces y anguilas. M\u00e1s de 100.000 personas est\u00e1n afectadas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Los conflictos e ideas explorados en estas p\u00e1ginas son urgentes. He represents the connections explored in this issue: between water use and land, people, food prices, and poverty. He represents what some know and some do not: that what you do to the water, you do to the land, and what you do to the land, you do to the people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On page 23 Guatemalan professor and lead author of the UN IPCC reports on climate change Dr. Edwin Castellanos writes that \u201cclimate change will be felt in Guatemala essentially as a problem of water management\u201d as dry-season droughts become more severe, rainy-season floods become more destructive, and surface and groundwater remain contaminated with untreated sewage and chemical pollution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On page 25 Dr. Daniel Matul of the Liga Maya writes that part of the solution is to see ourselves from the Maya perspective, as part of what we are polluting. The catastrophes caused by plantations, mines, climate change, and the lack of waste treatment are connected by the \u201cimposed European vision of nature as an object of exploitation by man, ruler of creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In June, communities along River La Pasi\u00f3n in Pet\u00e9n saw massive numbers of dead fish floating with the current. It appears that an African palm plantation released toxins into the river, from which scientists have recovered the corpses of 23 different species of fish and eel. Over 100,000 people have been affected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The conflicts and ideas explored in these pages are urgent.
